Cornell Book Club: 2011-2012 Book Selection

Do you like reading? Do you like discussing new books, or classic literature? Then please join us on September 14th at 7:15 p.m. at the Roseville Public Library, where we will host an informal discussion of Steinbeck's Depression-era "Grapes of Wrath." Though this book was chosen more than a year ago, it seems especially appropriate for our current, tumultuous economic climate.

The Cornell Club of Minnesota Book Club is also in the process of selecting books for the 2011-2012 season. Please e-mail your book club suggestions (optionally with a descriptive sentence or two) to Lucas at hjelle+cornell@gmail.com by September 13th, and please join us at the regularly scheduled Book Club meeting, where we will finalize our 2011-2012 selections.

The Cornell Club of Minnesota Book Club meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Roseville Public Library from 7:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and once per year we hold a special book discussion with a Cornell Author. We will post the books for 2011-2012 as soon as they are finalized; please feel free to join us for any or all of the discussions. We look forward to seeing you at Book Club!

Dear Reader,

On behalf of the Cornell club of Minnesota, I want to thank all the alumniCornell students 2011 who withstood the 90 degree+ heat and high humidity to attend the New Student Send Off Picnic on Sunday.Over 90 people attended the event and we had our largest new student turnout ever. Next year let's get 120 people!

Thank you to Al & Lucy Levitan for hosting the event.

Be sure to thank the following people when you see them next time:
Carlos Gutierrez did a lot of the planning and he, along with Michael Boull, worked over the hot grills.

Julie Westbrock took all the photos. If anyone else took some photos sendCornell watermelon them our way.

Kate McAndrews & Nicole Danielsen handled all the check-ins, administrative work and welcomed our new students.

Dimitri Hatzigeorgiou from Starbucks provided gifts to all the new freshman, along with Ethos water and plenty of iced coffees/teas.

Coca Cola provided the club with over 70 bottles of Dasani water (thanks Carlos).

We have uploaded photos to the event to our Facebook page. We will beFind us on Facebook adding them to photo sharing site soon. If you don't have a Facebook account we encourage you to sign up - you don't need to "use" it for anything other than the club - it is the fastest and easiest way to communicate with our members. We have posted photos and our upcoming events there.

We are in the process of integrating a new, Ithaca provided, website to provide updates as well (that is still probably 6 months away from being completed in Ithaca).

Below is some more information about the upcoming events. We hope to see you there!!

We are still in need of volunteers. In particular we are looking for:
a) Treasurer
b) Event planner
c) 5 people - not board members - to plan one event a year. This could be a social event, tour or company visit/tour.

Your continued support is appreciated.
